Plug Fishing Key West With MirrOlure
I have found through the years that
many of my clients enjoy fishing with artificial such
as Plugs, top water baits, jigs, and soft baits. I have
made a point in recent years to do what I can to quench
this thirst for casting and catching fish. When I think
about it, most of my clients are bass fishermen from
somewhere else, and, with bass fishing casting and
retrieving is the name of the game.
In response for the need for my
clients to enjoy the "Plug Toss" I started finding out
which of our species here out of Key West enjoy eating a
well placed plug. I did not need to look into the
barracudas as we all know they love a fast moving bait
on the flats and deep water. So I looked around a bit
and discovered a whole new world.
Mirror Lure was key in helping me
find this world. They make just about any color
combination of artificial that one can think of. its
truly amazing what they offer in their web sites and on
catalogue, not to mention being able to find them in any
tackle retailer including Wall Mart, and K Mart. So the
plugs that I use are accessible to everyone all over.
When I set out on my "All
In Wonder" fishing charter that encompasses every
species that my clients can catch in one day, plug
fishing is a big part of that. This truly gives my
clients the everything in a day experience to catch fish
in many different fashions and species and keeps them
from getting bored during a slow period in the action. I
can always find a species or two that will eat a plug
during a slack tide.
Near shore we are catching Grouper
and Snapper on a lipped plugs in a fishery no one seems
to hit. Its amazing, my clients this year have caught
several black grouper in the 10 -20 lb range using the
L52MR plug. My favorite color of this style plug is the
darker mullet pattern for the grouper. The Snapper love
the Clown colors or bright oranges and blues. We have
caught some HUGE mutton snappers on the Clown plug and
many times limited out on yellowtail snapper in less
than two hours. NEVER TOUCHING A BAIT....... If you are
reading this and are a prospective client I have
designated this area as Catch and release only for Black
Grouper and Mutton snappers. Everything else is fare
game especially the yellowtail snappers.
Inshore the action is incredible.
Trout, Jacks, Pompano, Bluefish, Lady Fish and many more
round out the cast of characters. Here I use a plug that
has no lip, such as the Mirror Lure 28MR. this is a
variable speed plug that offers the angler many
different patterns of swimming effect. Also inshore I
use three other Plug designs by Mirror Lure.

This plug is a great
midlevel walker or straight puller. I enjoy tossing it
at Barracudas and any other fish looking for a minnow
snack. Works really well for me for Trout, Barracudas,
Baby Tarpon, Jacks, Snappers, Lady Fish, and Cobia.
I lead it with at
least 30 lb fluorocarbon carbon and use a straight Improved
clinch knot for attaching line. No Loop knot is required
here for swimming effect.
MirrOlure Minnow

Comes in many
different colors. Check the Mirror Lures web site and
see the variations. The minnow is Destructive on any
trout population. Offshore the Mackerel bust the heck
out of it. I feel comfortable throwing this plug
anywhere I think the fish are eating glass minnows. Here
in the Florida Keys and Key West, that is a bunch of the
time. Great for all species that eat fish. I even caught
a Permit on this plug.
Because toothy
critters love this plug I usually lead it with a trace
of #4 wire or less. attached with a ploy mere knot to 30
lb fluorocarbon. You can do what ever you like to pull this
plug, every fish likes it different.
MR 44 Triple
Action
This is an all time
favorite of mine. I love it for everything. Most
important in the fall the baby tarpon cannot say no.
They love it. This plug has a unique feature I have not
found in any other. You can switch the bait from a
lipped swimmer to a top water chugger with a simple turn
of a front nose attachment. WAY COOL. I think that
anytime I can get two plugs for the price of one I got a
deal. Trout, Barracudas, Baby Tarpon, Jacks, Snappers,
Lady Fish, and Cobia are the fish my clients have caught
with this plug.

L52MR Lipped
Diver
I
can't tell you how
much fun this plug has been. catching nice sized Grouper
and Snappers. The wilder the color of this plug the
better the snapper fishing. the duller the color the
better the grouper fishing. Catch Muttons, black
Grouper, Scamp, Gags, Yellowtail Snappers, Mangrove
Snappers and many more. Not to mention the inshore
species.

available. Match your species to your leader.
