About The Backcountry The islands that surround Key West are considered the "backcountry". Made up of mostly 3 different species of Mangrove trees most of these backcountry islands are not really islands at all. They are awash at high tide and a mecca for creatures to get their start in the world. A huge ecosystem diverse with species of fish, crustaceans, invertebrates, corals, grasses, rays, sharks, dolphins and turtles. Nature lovers absolutely LOVE this trip. Our quiet boats are able to sneak right into these natural habitats undisturbed so you can see how life is away from human intrusion.
All of this is visible right from the boat - OR - you can use our supplied snorkeling gear to get in and check out the underwater world for yourself. However you would like to view it, its up to you. We will keep you safe and having fun all while learning the base of what makes up all of the Florida Keys and Key West. Eco Tours Charter These charters are 4 and 6 hours in length. We can take up to 6 persons. Departure times vary depending on schedule. Some of our boats have bathrooms and shade, some don't. We recommend that you bring your hat, sunscreen (lotion - not spray) and good polarized sunglasses. Don't forget your camera and maybe a pair of binoculars (you are welcome to use ours). The Boat We Use We use different boats in our fleet to make this trip a success and to fit our clients needs. From 24ft to 32ft our boats are all top of the line and capable of anything. Bird Watchers are able to enjoy this trip as well with possibilities of seeing all sorts of aquatic bird life. Rookeries for the Frigate, cormorant and the herons. Pelicans and many other sea birds are easily spotted here with the Osprey being the star of the show.
