Come to Key West For Bonefish

Catch more bonefish in Key West than anywhere else in the Florida Keys !

Yes, you read that correctly. Our fishery is amazing and spread out over hundreds of square miles of perfect un-trampled waters. Key West is an exceptional location for Bonefishing for many reasons. Not only do we have a great fishery here but because Key West is so much fun. Great places to stay and fun things to do when you are not chasing the Grey Ghost.

How We Fish For Them

Flats Boats we use can get into the shallow waters needed to present our anglers with an opportunity using light tackle spin fishing gear  with live bait and artificials or Fly fishing. Either way the flats boat method has the guide in the back of the boat poling along until an opportunity presents itself. The guide then instructs you where to cast. This can be a challenging way to fish with focus and concentration a must. Flats fishing boats only carry 2 persons max and when fly fishing only one person can cast at a time.

Bay Boats the most comfortable vehicle we use. Our 24 ft Yellowfin Bay Boats have proven themselves a worthy adversary to the stealthy bonefish. Your chances of catching a bonefish with limited or no skills at all are greatly increased on the bay boats. With the fishing guide right beside you the cast is well instructed and often times there are multiple chances. The bay boats can also carry 4 persons on the flats in the shallows allowing more to enjoy this fun way to fish. We can also fly fish from the bay boats as well offering a fantastic stable fly fishing platform.

Light Tackle Fishing is the prefer method from the majority of our fishing clients using light spin fishing gear and live bait. We have a vast selection of fishing gear for you to use or bring your own.

Fly Fishing is a hoot for bonefish. A relatively strong cast is needed as wind can be a factor. Bring your own 7-8 wt rod with floating line or we will supply one for you from Orvis, Sage, or G Loomis. We supply flies and leaders.

Seasons For Bonefish In Key West

Starting in Spring bonefish start to show up around March upon the first warm fronts on the South Easterly breezes. Appearances in March tend to be quick and not very numerous so we generally will not book a trip based on Bonefishing in March April time frame. Also March and April are great months for Key West Tarpon fishing so the focus then is usually tarpon with Bonefish as a second thought.

May, June, July, our hard core summer months are Great times for bonefish, but it's Hot as hell. With temps into the 90's most everyday the fishing needs to be done before 10 am and after 5 PM. The tops of the day is still great for Permit as they seem not to care about the heat.

Best time is the Fall months. Late August, September, October and sometimes into November. This is the best time to fish for bonefish with larger fish and fewer crowds.
